The CAPTCHA won't complete
Updated 2026-09-02
This affects both creating a survey and answering one. The verification box appears on both, and the fixes are the same either way.
What usually works
- Reload the page. The check retries on its own most of the time, and a reload gives it a clean attempt.
- Check for a browser extension blocking it. Ad blockers, tracker blockers, and privacy extensions are the single most common cause. Try pausing the extension for this site, or open the page in a private or incognito window, which usually disables extensions by default.
- Check your browser's privacy setting. A "strict" tracking-protection mode in Firefox or Safari, or a similar setting in another browser, can block the check the same way an extension does. Try loosening it for this site.
- Try a different network. Some corporate, school, and public wifi networks filter or interfere with verification services. Switching to mobile data or a different network is a quick way to tell if that is the cause.
- Check that your device's clock is correct. A clock that is off by more than a few minutes can cause verification to fail in ways that look like the box itself is broken.
If a retry link appears under the box
Use it rather than reloading the whole page. It re-runs the check in place without losing anything you have already typed elsewhere in the form, including answers on a respondent form or questions you have added while creating a survey.
If none of this clears it
Try a different browser or device if you have one available. If the box never renders at all, rather than rendering and failing, that is more consistent with a network or extension block than with anything else on this list, so start there again with a private window on a different network.
If you are answering someone else's survey
The same checks apply. You do not need an account to answer a survey, so signing in or out makes no difference here. If the verification keeps failing on one device, try the link on your phone instead, or ask the person who sent it whether anyone else has reported the same problem, since a network-wide block affects everyone on that connection the same way.
If you are creating a survey
The CAPTCHA sits near the create button, below your questions. It is easy to miss if you scroll straight to the button without noticing the box needs your attention first, and a missing check is also the third and last thing the create button looks for before it will let a survey through. If your only symptom is an unfinished-looking box rather than a failure message, that is not a bug: it has not been completed yet.
