Create your first survey

Go to rifts.to, type a title, add at least one question, and click Create Survey. That's it: no account is required, either for you or for the people who answer.

Add your questions

A survey can mix three kinds of question, in any order:

Multiple choice: respondents pick one option from a list you write.
Rating: a fixed 1 to 10 scale.
Free text: an open box for a written answer.

Every question requires an answer by default. Making a question optional, or showing it only when an earlier answer matches, is a paid feature you set under Answer rules below each question.

Complete the captcha and publish

Below the questions is a captcha widget. It has to be solved before the button will submit. Without it, or without a title, or without at least one question, Create Survey does nothing and tells you what's missing rather than sending anything.

Your two links

Publishing gives you two links, and they are not interchangeable:

A survey link, to share with respondents. Anyone who has it can answer.
An admin link, which shows results as they arrive. Anyone who has it can read every answer and close the survey. Treat it like a password: don't post it publicly.

If you're signed in, both links are saved to your account and listed under your surveys. If you're signed out, the admin link exists only in your browser at that moment, so copy it somewhere safe before you navigate away.

How long it collects answers

A free survey takes responses for 7 days from the moment you create it. After that, the survey stops accepting new answers, but everything already submitted stays exactly where it is; nothing is deleted. See the 7-day free window for the details.

Fixing a mistake after publishing

You can rename a survey's title from the admin dashboard at any time, for free. Editing the questions themselves after publishing is a paid feature, and once a survey has even one response the edits it allows narrow further: you can still reword a question or add a new one, but you can't remove a question, change its type, or remove and rename a multiple choice option, since an existing answer would stop lining up with anything.

If you didn't sign in first

The screen after you publish offers to email you a link to save the survey to an account, even though you created it without one. If you skip that too, the survey still isn't lost: paste the admin link in later to attach it to an account, as described in claim a survey.
