Insights: every survey on one page

The admin dashboard shows one survey. Insights shows all of them at once: how many responses came in over a period, how that compares with the period before, which days were busiest, and how each survey on your account is doing. Open it from the Insights card at the top of your account page.

Insights is part of Pro, including during the free trial. Without Pro the page shows what it includes and a way to upgrade; nothing about your surveys is deleted or hidden anywhere else.

Choosing a period

The buttons at the top pick the period: 7 days, 30 days, 90 days or 12 months. The four numbers, the chart and the survey table follow the period you pick; combined results for repeated questions always cover all time. 12 months covers the last 52 whole weeks, so the chart has 52 equal columns. The period is part of the page address, so a bookmark or a reload keeps it.

The four numbers

• Responses in the period, with the change against the period just before it, of the same length. Thirty days are compared with the thirty days before them. If the earlier period had no responses at all, it says so instead of showing a percentage, since any percentage there would be made up.
• Responses, all time: every response to every survey on your account, whatever the period.
• Surveys: how many are on your account, and how many are open and taking answers right now. An archived survey is never counted as open.
• Median responses per survey: the middle survey's all-time count, with how many surveys have no responses yet. It is a median rather than an average because one very large session would pull an average away from what a typical survey of yours gets.

Responses over time

One column per day, including days with no responses, so a quiet stretch shows as a gap. Over 12 months each column is a week, and the newest week ends today. On a computer, hover over a column to see its date and count. Under the chart is the busiest day or week in the period.

Days are counted in UTC. If you run a session in the evening in the Americas, or early in the morning in Asia or Australia, its responses can land on the next or previous day on the chart.

The survey table

Every survey on your account, ranked by responses in the period. Surveys level on that are ranked by all-time responses, then newest first. Each row shows its status (open, closed, expired or archived), the count in the period, the all-time count, and the date of the last response. Select a title to open that survey's results. The ten busiest show first; Show all lists the rest.

Responses per survey

The last section counts your surveys by all-time responses: none, 1 to 9, 10 to 49, 50 to 199, and 200 or more. A long "none" row usually means surveys that were made and never shared; why a survey has no responses yet covers the common causes.

Questions you ask again

When the same question appears in two or more of your surveys, Insights adds its answers together across every survey that asks it, for all time rather than the period you picked. A question counts as the same when its type matches and its wording matches, ignoring capitals, extra spaces and the closing question mark. Surveys launched from a saved template, and surveys you cloned, ask the same questions, so they combine on their own.

• Multiple choice: every option's combined count and share. An option added to later surveys is included; an answer naming an option no survey has is left out, as it is on each survey's own results.
• Rating: the combined average out of 10, and how the answers spread from 1 to 10.
• Free text: how many people wrote something, and the three most recent answers.

Open By survey under a question to see how it came out in each survey, oldest first: the average rating or the most picked option, and how many answered. The twelve questions with the most answers are shown.

Downloading every response

Download every response (CSV), under the survey table, gives you one spreadsheet covering all your surveys, with one row per answer: the survey, when the response came in, the question and the answer. Filter or pivot on the question column to put a repeated question back together. It includes up to the newest 20,000 responses, and the file name says so when you have more.

Asking the assistant

With Pro, the assistant can answer from the same numbers. Ask how your surveys did this month, whether a rating has gone up across your sessions, or which survey drew the most answers. It reads the counts and averages described here, and it can still read what people wrote in each survey, as before.

Which surveys are counted

Insights counts the surveys attached to your account, archived ones included. A survey you made without signing in is not attached to anything yet, so it appears once you claim it. A survey someone shared with you as a collaborator counts on its owner's Insights, not yours.

Insights does not show who answered. The only free-text answers on the page are the three most recent for each question you ask in more than one survey; each survey's own results have the rest, and the table opens them.
