Presenting results live

The admin dashboard has two views of a survey's results: Grid, every question at once, and Present, one question at a time on a full-screen stage. Both update live as answers arrive; see running a live session for keeping either one open while you collect answers.

Grid or Present

Grid is the dashboard's everyday view. Every question gets its own card, so you can scan the whole survey at a glance. It shows one column on a phone and two on a laptop, and on a wide screen it moves to three when more than four questions are visible. It's the view for checking results yourself, with no audience watching.

Present is built for showing results to a room. It fills the screen in big type, one question at a time, in your survey's own theme. The join QR code and the short link sit in a corner so anyone who arrives late can still get in, and J shows or hides them. The top bar holds the progress count ("3 / 12"), the live status, and the response count. The controls fade after about 3 seconds so they stay out of the way, and come back when you move the mouse.

If the survey is closed or has expired, the stage says so, and the join QR code starts hidden because there is nothing left to join.

Starting Present

Click Present on the dashboard. The stage opens full screen on the first visible question.

You can also add ?view=present to your admin link, for a bookmark or a link in your notes before a talk. Add &q=3 (or any question number) to start on that question; if it's hidden, Present opens on the nearest visible one. A link opens Present in the browser window, not full screen, because browsers only allow full screen after a click, so use the Full screen button in the top bar. While you present, the address bar follows the question you're on, so copying it gives you a link back to the same place.

Keyboard and clicker controls

• Next question: right arrow, down arrow, Space, Page Down, or Enter
• Previous question: left arrow, up arrow, Page Up, or Backspace
• First / last question: Home / End
• Reveal: H
• Show or hide the join QR code and link: J
• Back to Grid: Esc

Most presentation clickers send Page Up and Page Down, so they step through your questions the same way they step through slides, with nothing to set up.

Holding results back with Reveal

Reveal is for when you don't want the first few answers swaying everyone who is still deciding. Results show as normal until you press H (or click Hide results). That hides the current question's results and starts a hold: from then on, every question you haven't revealed yet opens with its results hidden, and pressing H reveals it. A question you've already revealed stays revealed when you go back to it. Leaving Present ends the hold, so the next time you open it, results show until you press H again.

The simplest way to use it is to press H on the first question, before anyone has answered. Every question after that waits for you.

Reveal is part of Pro, and it follows the plan of the account that owns the survey. On the free plan, pressing H or the Reveal button opens a short explanation with a link to Pro (a collaborator sees the explanation without the link), and results stay visible.

Hiding a question

To keep a question off the stage, click the eye-slash button (Hide this question) on its card in Grid. A hidden question disappears from Grid and is skipped in Present. Hidden (n) in the toolbar lists hidden questions and brings any of them back. You can't hide a question from inside Present, so do it in Grid before you start.

Hiding a single answer

Free text is whatever your audience just typed, so you can take one answer out of view without deleting it or stopping the survey. Click the eye icon on the answer, either on its Grid card or on the stage, where the icon appears with the other controls when you move the mouse. The answer drops out of both views. To bring hidden answers back, click Show hidden answers on that question's Grid card. Answers that arrive after you hide one still appear as they come in.

Hidden questions, hidden answers, and your Sort and Show choices are saved in this browser, for this survey. Nothing is sent anywhere, so a different browser, or one with its site data cleared, starts fresh.

How results read

The Sort options menu (Survey order or Most votes) and the Show menu (Counts or Percentages) sit above the grid. They apply to every multiple choice question and carry into Present. A multiple choice question with no votes yet lists its options at zero. A rating question shows the full 1 to 10 distribution, bar by bar, with the average and median. Free text lists answers newest first: a Grid card shows the five newest, and Show all opens the rest, while the stage shows up to nine, with "+N more" counting the others.

What's free and what's Pro

Present, Grid, hiding questions and answers, Sort and Show, and the rating distribution are free. Pro adds Reveal and an unbranded stage: on the free plan, the stage shows a small "Made with rifts.to" mark in the corner. Exporting your answers to CSV is part of Pro too.

If your browser won't go full screen

Present still fills the browser window and works normally when full screen is blocked, whether by a work laptop's policy, a locked-down conference-room computer, or a browser that refuses. Press F11 (Control-Command-F on a Mac) or use your browser's own full-screen control. Nothing in Present depends on true full screen.
